So, inside a week I've managed to get kicked out of two businesses in downtown Omaha for complete bullshit. The first was a popular coffee shop. No, not Starbucks, the other one. Anyways, after crashing at home for a couple of hours I limped to the coffee shop, over a mile. This was after I got my stuff back.
The Asst. Manager was working. I had regaled my tale of nearly dying and being in pain and such, just barista chat. Her response? "What does that have to do with what kind of coffee do you want?" Wow... ok. Talk about customer service here. Even when I hated life, I was as cheery as possible to every customer when I worked at Starbucks.
So I'm upstairs (yeah, now you know where I'm talking about) in pain all over. Some time had passed. I'd been chatty with a couple of girls, to the point I was comfortable asking her to go and get a refill on my behalf, my money and all. It came back upstairs with a terse warning from the Assistant Manager about not doing that.
So, I go downstairs eventually, and apologize in person. She says I have till I finish my coffee to leave. I ask, as that is a wide variable, what does she mean. How long? She answers me with the fact I could just leave now. When I asked if this was some sort of permanent ban, she only responded with "You can leave now."
Now I'll be the first to admit I look a little rugged. Well dressed for being street dependent. I can't help but feel that she was tired of me buying 3 coffees and hanging around for 6 or 7 hours not causing a problem.
I dunno.
But the day previous (if I recall correctly) I was sitting in Cubbies, and establishment I've utilized for 12 years. Sometimes I'd not bother going to someplace something was cheaper just to give them business. Early in the morning, my meds hit me a little harder than I expected. The manager kicks the table and tells me to get my shit and leave. Now, I can't prove it, but I distinctly remember having a conversation with another employee during one of his shifts about LGBTS. I can also remember him having a negative response to the conversation.
I drifted off. He treats me like scum. Can't help but think the conversation as well as a general disdain for the street dependent was the motive. I've yet to get back to them to find how long the ban is for.
I've never caused a problem, I've always picked up after myself. I've helped shuttle drunks out. I've helped keep peace. I've been going there longer than any one employee has worked there. I went from no problems to a ban. WTF.
